AREDN

This is the software we upload to the mesh nodes. Once loaded on the hardware, it enables the node to search out partners broadcasting for the same network. Once a partner, or multiple partners, are found, it begins weaving a web of interconnectivity between the partners. Those partners are then able to communicate back and forth with one another, transmitting data from point to point. It works with other nodes to find the best routes between nodes to transmit data. If, for any reason, a node goes down, the other nodes will log that and know to route around it. Essentially this is a large-scale, self-healing intranet that can remain up even when the local ISPs are down.

Ubiquiti

We recommend this hardware because of its durability and reliability. The AREDN operating system was designed with this hardware in mind. Considering also that the hardware for this project needs to be outside and occasionally mounted on towers, these come in very durable packages.
